A few tricks that may seem small can be big in different situations. One of those is “sit”. A simple trick, yet can be useful for different things. If you are having a guest or your boss over for dinner or the night, sit can be very useful. If this person comes in dressed nice, a dog jumping up onto him can be the difference between getting a promotion or having them stay over again. Or getting on your boss’ bad side or having some friends avoid your house. Having the command “sit” will help keep your dog from jumping up onto your guest.

Another command that can be useful is “come here”. If your dog happens to get away, or you lose your grip on him/her, you can call that command and get your dog to come back to you. This can be a very useful command if you live near a busy street.

“Stay” is another useful command. If your dog likes to attempt to sneak out the door every time you go out, this command can be used. It will help keep him from running out and causing something bad to happen, and will keep you from having to go through the trouble of finding him. This command should be taught with “come here” in cause he does get out after he has learned “stay”.

These three commands which don’t seem like they can do much, can be very useful. They can be taught by your local grooming place and boarding place most of the time. This can make the process go faster by having someone else who has had experience training dogs. But for just a little fee, this can help you get multiple things done at once. You could get him trained while you’re at work, or out of town, or just getting him groomed. Those three commands should be taught to your dog to make sure that whenever you need them, he knows them already.

Training Your Dog

Training your dog can by helpful in pet shows and in general. Training your dog can be for getting him to run around some poles or jump over a hurdle. It can also be to teach your dog to go to the bathroom in the right spot. And can also be used for teaching your dog a fun trick like shake or speak. But over all, training your dog has a couple tricks to help it speed up.

While training your dog, a few tips that are recommended to help your dog learn faster is to teach in short periods of time a couple times a day. Training your dog in a long amount of time all at once may cause your dog to become distracted easier later in that training time.

Keeping your dog in a area that does not have any distractions makes it easier to for your dog to focus on the trick you are teaching him. This will help make the learning process go faster. If you can’t find a spot that is distraction free, then try going to that area at a later or earlier time to avoid distractions. If you still can’t avoid them earlier or later, then try finding a spot with minimum distractions.

And a third thing that can help speed up the training process with your dog is having a reward to give your dog when he does that trick right. The reward can be his favorite toy, a doggy treat he likes, or it can be praising your dog.

Yet if you can’t find the time to train your dog yourself. There are always trainers that have had experience training dogs, and may train your dog at a quicker rate then you for a fee. This will leave your hands free while your dog is being trained, and can be worth while if you can’t train your dog because of time problems. ( Also some local grooming places and boarding places will also teach dogs, and can make it easy to get your dog trained while you are away or getting him groomed.)

Training your dog can be quick and easy at small amounts of time, a couple times a day. And keeping your dog away from distractions while you are training him, and giving him rewards for doing the trick right will help make it go quicker. Remember those three things if you are training your dog, and training your dog will be a lot easier.

Shots Needed For Puppies

Vaccinations for dogs are needed for the safety of your dog, other dogs, and the people around him. Your dog needs to be vaccinated most is when he is a puppy. There are eight different vaccines needed when your dog is a puppy. Your puppy needs to get vaccinated at about six to eight weeks of age for the first shot. Then about every three weeks later he will need another vaccination. The five major vaccinations they get over this time are for: distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus.

A few other vaccinations are needed too. One of the important ones is for rabies. This vaccination should be given to your dog at about four to six months of age. Yet if you have a full grown dog that has not had a vaccination to prevent rabies, it is recommended to get one shot for rabies every year.

The bordetella vaccination is needed at about eight to sixteen weeks of age, and protects against respiratory infections. And lastly there is the coronavirus vaccination which is given at about the age of seven and sixteen weeks old. Coronavirus vaccinations should be given annually.

Getting shots for your puppy or older dog is necessary to keep your dog healthy. These vaccinations helps protects your dog from fatal diseases and harmful sicknesses. Yet these vaccinations do not keep your dog from never getting sick ever again. They will decrease the chance of your dog getting sick by having those eight vaccinations. These shots will be required for your dog at all reputable boarding or grooming facility. They should be administered by your veterinarian.  Just remember to get your dog the shots he needs, and the other shots that are needed annually to keep your dog healthy.

Potatoes and dogs. Are they good for them or not?

Are potatoes good for dogs or not? A commonly asked question by dog owners. Potatoes have been found in many dishes, treats, and some dog foods (to add flavor or to fill your dog up faster). But yet potatoes have been known to harm dogs who have eaten  them. So are potatoes good for your dog or not?

The skin from the potato is said to be bad for your dog. But the worst part of a potato that your dog can eat is a green part of a potato. A green part of a potato is worse than the skin, and harms your dog more than the skin of the potato.

But what is it that makes the skin and green parts of a potato so bad? Solanine is something that is found in parts of the potato that makes it bad. When the potato is cooked with the skin on it or a green spot on it, it still contains solanine and it is still poisonous to dogs.

A raw potato or a cooked potato, which is worse if your dog eats them? A raw potato is worse for your dog because some things within the potato that can be harmful to your dog have not been cooked out. So a cooked potato doesn’t have those things in it, and makes it better for your dog.

So potatoes are only good for dogs if a couple things have been done so they can’t harm your dog. Peeling the skin off the potato makes it better for your dog and decreases the chance of harming your dog.

There are three things to remember about feeding your dog potatoes. Not feeding any of the green parts of a potato is important to remember. Green parts harm your dog the most and can kill a dog if they eat too much of them. Cooked potatoes are better then raw potatoes. Remember those three things if you’re feeding your dog potatoes. Keeping your dog from eating the bad parts of a potato is key to keeping him healthy.
