Submissive Urination And How To Stop It

Some dogs will get excited when you come home or go to greet him, and he will roll over or squat and pee. This is good and bad. It shows that you are more dominant, but your dog still pees on the floor. Submissive urination can sometimes lead to your dog thinking that it’s alright to pee in that spot. There are a few ways to deal with this situation, and there are many different things that will cause your dog to do this.

Loud sounds (especially yelling), making eye contact, and/or bending over to pet your dog are a few of the things that can cause your dog to pee from submissive urination and should be avoided at all costs. One of the things that you should do when you open a door to greet your dog is to walk past your dog and try to walk to a spot which your dog can pee in. Call your dog to come to you once you are at one of those spots. There you should try to get your dog to go to the bathroom so he will not pee from submissive urination.

Another way to prevent it is to not let your dog drink too much water. Especially if he has been stuck in a room for hours and needs to go to the bathroom. But remember to not yell at your dog if he does pee out of submissive urination. This could also lead to him peeing again. And don’t stop to pet your dog if he has been in a room for hours. Just walk away to a spot which he can go in and call him to you so he can go to the bathroom before you pet him.

There are many other ways that you can train your dog to prevent submissive urination in a spot which your dog shouldn’t go in. These are just tips on what can cause your dog to do this, and how to prevent it. So if you find another way that works, stick with it.

Collars For Dogs

<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

Finding the right collar for your dog can depend on the size of your dog, his personality, any medical problems, and what you do and don’t want him to do. Some collars can cause problems that will harm your dog in the long run. Others were made to keep those problems from happening. There are three main types of collars: prong, choke collars, and harness. Larger more outgoing dogs who like to jump up on people and chase things that they shouldn’t should use a prong or choke collar until they learn not to. Quieter, less outgoing dogs should use a harness.

Prong collars have the same purpose as a choke collar, to keep your dog from taking off running to chase an animal or something else. The prong collar has sets of dull spikes on the inside of the collar, so if your dog takes off running after something when he’s on a leash, he’ll learn, hopefully, to not do that again the next time around. This shouldn’t be used on older dogs because it has a higher risk of harming them and causing problems.

Choke chain collars are for the same purpose as a prong, but can cause problems to dogs quicker. The choke collar will tighten more and more the more your dog pulls away from you when your dog is on a leash. This also takes a bit longer to train your dog because it doesn’t cause as much discomfort as a prong collar, but it doesn’t make it safer over time.

Harnesses are less likely to cause a problem to your dog, and are better to use if he already has a health problem. Harnesses take a bit longer to get on and don’t stop your dog from pulling away from you as much when he wants to chase something. It is best to use this collar after your dog learns to pull away.

There is one more collar which is used to teach a dog called a shock collar. There is alot of controversy over these and probably should not be used without consulting a veterinarian.

Finding the right collar will depend on how your dog acts and any medical problems. So when you’re trying to find the right collar, just think of the four things: size of your dog, his personality, any medical problems, and what you do and don’t want him to do.

Potty Training Your Dog

<!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>

Training your dog to go to the bathroom in the right spot is one of the important things that a pet parent has to teach to his dog. Getting your dog to go outside instead of inside on the furniture or the floor can save you the time of cleaning and save money on supplies to clean it up. But in the beginning of training your dog where to go potty, you will need some supplies to get out stains just in case. It is best that you train your dog yourself so he is familiar with his surroundings and will have a better idea on where to go. But if you can’t teach him yourself, you could take him to a local boarding place that offers training courses that will teach your dog to go outside to use the bathroom or other tricks.

If you decide to teach your dog yourself then you should start off with taking him outside or to the spot where you want him you go to the bathroom. You can tell if your dog needs to go out if he starts to sniff around a lot. This tends to be a sign of needing to go to the bathroom. Once outside or at that spot, you will probably have to wait a second or so for him to find a spot. Once your dog is going to the bathroom in a good spot, you should reward him with a treat or praise him. This will speed up the the learning process. After a while, your dog should remember where to go, and it will be much easier to get him to go.

The best way to train your dog is to teach him yourself when it comes to potty training him, or when it comes to teaching him any type of trick. But yet if you can’t train him yourself, you could find a boarding place that may offer training which may take a bit longer for your dog to learn if your not training him, but will save you the time of having to wait and train him.

Traveling With Your Dog

When you decide to go off traveling with your dog, there are things you need to get & do before you take him with you. The first one is making travel arrangements for your dog with the airline in advance. The cost of traveling with your dog tends to be at around fifty to hundred dollars depending on the place you are traveling to and time of year. It is best to travel with your dog at a time of the year with a mild temperature if he has to travel in the baggage area of the plane.

You will need to have an airline approved crate to put him in while he is traveling. For long distance flights and for dogs who are not potty trained, a doggy diaper can be useful so you don’t have a mess to clean up later.  If your dog happens to be small enough, and quiet, you could probably have your dog travel with you in the cabin. You might be able to have him sit in your lap or seat…if approved by airline personnel.  Another thing that is helpful to keep your dog entertained during the flight and out of trouble is bringing his favorite toy.

Before you get on the flight, the airline needs a copy of your dog’s health record to make sure that he has gotten the vaccinations he needs. When you arrive there, make sure to have a collar with his identification tags. And once you get on the plane, a good idea is to tell one of the flight attendants, if your dog happens to not be in the cabin with you, that he is on the flight. Most of the time they will update you on how he is doing during the flight.

Unless you really want to go spend time with your dog while you are on your trip, the easiest thing to do is to board him at your local boarding facility. This can be much cheaper, and you may be able to get your dog groomed and trained there while you are away. And your life while you’re traveling may be a bit easier while you are away…not to mention, your dog will be have a good time hanging out with his buddies and having fun running around instead of being confined to a crate and/or a hotel room.

A Few More Dog Tricks

There are many other tricks that can be useful. One of these commands is “retrieve”. Retrieve, getting your dog to get a item from one place and bring it to you, can be used for many things. From just playing at the park and retrieving a ball, to getting an egg from the refrigerator and so on.

Yet how would you train your dog to do this? Simple. First find your dog’s favorite toy. Then get your dog into a clear area to train him free of distractions. Now when you are training him, it is recommended that you have already taught your dog a non-voice command to help him come to you in the beginning.

When you have your dog next to you paying attention, you should throw your dog’s favorite toy about five to ten feet from you. While you are throwing the toy, make sure to say “retrieve” so your dog knows what command to do. When he picks up the toy, use that non-voice command to get him to you.

If your dog comes back with the toy, make sure to reward him.

There are many other tricks that your dog can learn, but the four most helpful are “sit”, “stay”, “retrieve”, and “come here”. Most of the other tricks are most advanced versions of other tricks, like “lay” and “roll over”. Teaching your dog one of those trick can help with the more advance tricks.

Yet if you are going to be out of town or having your dog being groomed, you could have your dog learn some of these tricks if you ask your local boarding place about it. This can help when you are busy at work and your dog needs to learn a trick, or when you are away. Getting your dog to learn tricks and commands can be useful and fun in different situations. At the park to show your friends or if your dog gets out, commands can be useful.
